My dad called tonight, to make sure he hadn’t missed our World Tour. I told him our schedule, and mentioned that I was going to be turning on the calling-in-Europe feature on one of our mobile phones, but he should only call if it’s an emergency, as it’s kinda spendy.
DAD: A dollar? A minute?
ME: A dollar a minute to call from Germany.
DAD: Oh, I’m calling you all the time, then.
ME: Grab a soda and settle in for a nice, long chat?
DAD: Oh, yeah. You might be bored. That’s got to be good for at least 20 minutes. And I’ll call you up at 2am just to hear you say hello. That’s a buck!
ME: I see how you are.
DAD: Hell, I know four or five people I could give your number to. “Call her up. I’m pretty sure she’s lonely.”
ME: I’m pretty sure I won’t have time to be lonely, dad.
DAD: But now you for sure won’t be.
ME: Aww, thanks! Glad to know you’re looking out for me. And totally not going to try bankrupting me in two weeks’ time. I love you, too!
